FAQ

How often do we meet?

I meet with counseling/therapy clients weekly. I meet with spiritual direction clients monthly, or more often for certain clients including clergy, chaplains and seminary students.

Where do we meet?

My practice is exclusively telehealth. We can meet from wherever is most convenient for you, as long as you have a smart phone, tablet, or computer. The platform I use is browser-based, so no download is necessary.

If you are a therapy client, you must be located in the State of Maine.

What’s the difference between therapy and spiritual direction?

A counselor or therapist is a healthcare provider, working from a psychological perspective, who is licensed to provide mental health treatment in a specific state. Counseling/therapy sessions are weekly, work with your thoughts and feelings, and are often but not always guided by a specific mental health diagnosis. Counseling uses the client-counselor relationship as a starting place for change and growth.

A spiritual director is trained to be a companion on your spiritual journey. Spiritual direction is usually monthly, and helps you explore spiritual meaning, spiritual practices, religious participation and decision making. Spiritual direction is about your spiritual journey, which I define as connecting with that which is greater than you and brings your life meaning. While spiritual direction may touch on topics like family and relationships, it is always through the lens of your spirituality. I strongly encourage my spiritual direction clients to also have a therapist.

How will we know if this is a good fit?

I offer a free 30-minute consultation so you can meet me, ask questions, and see if you feel we might work well together. It’s a great opportunity to see if you feel comfortable with me and if working together would be a good fit.

What about fees and payment?

My current fee is $150 for a 50-minute session of therapy or spiritual direction. I accept all major credit cards. Payment is due at time of service.

Do you take insurance for counseling/therapy clients?

I am currently in the process of enrolling with insurance companies in the State of Maine. As this is an ongoing process, I currently only accept private pay clients. I can provide you a superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
